The owners of this Northern California Sunset Breezehouse home not only dream in green (hence their decision to live in a sustainably designed home), they are also surrounded by it while they sleep. From its bamboo flooring to the no-VOC paint, the anatomy of this green room is comprised of an array of eco-friendly essentials. One of our favorite design elements is the way the room is illuminated by sunlight on all four sides thanks to the open ceiling space leading to the bathroom where a skylight allows in plenty of natural light.

For today’s lesson in the anatomy of a green room we’ll be taking a little field trip to the Smart Home exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry. Inside the walls of this mkSolaire each room is chock-full of demonstrations of our 5 EcoPrinciples in action, which make sense since it’s meant to showcase the latest and greatest in green building innovations. Everything from the insulation to the countertops to the technology systems within are fantastic examples of sustainable design - everything you see here in the living room is no exception.

Here’s a sneak peak at the kitchen of the custom Sunset Breezehouse that will be open to the public tomorrow starting at 10am in Santa Barbara. We’ve depicted the anatomy of this green room based on our 5 EcoPrinciples - smart design, eco materials, energy efficiency, water conservation, and healthy environment - each of which we incorporated into the design of this gorgeous kitchen. This visual explanation of the room’s anatomy makes it easy to identify and understand all of it’s sustainable design elements it holds. Keep your eyes here for more of our anatomy lessons based on green rooms from some of the other homes we’ve designed and built so far. We promise they’ll be way more fun than anything you learned in your high school anatomy class.
