getting more from less

Keeping my house clear of clutter is a constant challenge for me. But one thing that really helps is smart storage, which is why I am a huge fan of furniture that doubles as storage (double function is a super important aspect of smart design. Now, I’m not talking about having a laz-y-boy with built-in cup holders. The solution is to find lovely pieces of well designed furniture that incorporate storage solutions. The sustainable part of this is that you end up using less material since you’re making one thing serve the purpose of two and so eliminate the need for the second.

We should expect more from less with everything in life in the same way the iPhone has raised the bar for cell phones so that now they can no longer rest at just being a phone, but must also give us email, photos, videos, etc… A fantastic example of dual-function furniture is the laminated oak Rolo Lounge (pictured topmost) design by Eric Pfeiffer for 10 Grain, coming out later this year. I also love Room & Board’s Pandora Cube seat that offers storage within and can convert to a table (pictured just above).

Flou beds offer a better way to store things under your bed than just stuffing your stuff underneath; the mattress can be lifted up to reveal a storage space beneath and the bed also comes with shelving on the sides for books. Any of these pieces are perfect ways to keep your home beautiful and organized at once and let you use fewer materials in doing so.
